    Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu: what do users think?

    Paul Sutton: I started training with Philadelphia JiuJitsu this past summer and it has been a great experience so far. Damon is extremely knowledgeable with over 30 years experience and has a great passion for teaching. What is unique about Philadelphia JiuJitsu is that it is more than a jiujitsu school as it incorporates many different martial arts. There is judo, wrestling, aikido, knife and stick fighting, and practical self-defense techniques. So you can come to a class that focuses on what you are interested in. The price is fair, the instructors are knowledgeable and whole gym is welcoming so if you are looking into learning martial arts and self defense Philadelphia jiujitsu is worth a visit

    Eldad Drori: due to his mastery of the craft... this is the place.If you are looking for a place where you can learn how to defend yourself either from those looking to harm you or to attack those who are looking to beat you... this is the place.If you are looking for not only Jui-Jitsu, but Judo, wrestling, striking, weapons fighting and a good joke or two... this is the place.If you are looking to get actual hands on training with respectable fellow students, and from the first time you come, you actually train and have rounds of wrestling and a crazy workout... this is the place.If you are not looking for the above, then I am sure you can find a great Zumba class at your local gym for a good sweat.

    Jeremy Boxer: I have been wanting to get back into martial arts after a decade hiatus. I tried several other schools in the area but they didn’t speak to me. The students at Philadelphia Jiu-Jitsu are top notch. They are welcoming to beginners, train hard, and prioritize safety as well. Damon is a fountain of knowledge and puts blood sweat and tears into training his students and running his classes. He’s approachable, humble, and rolls with all the students. I’ve gained so much in the short few months I’ve been training here and I would highly recommend the school to anyone who wants to get into high quality and affordable training.

Damon and the other instructors know their stuff by heart and have a large range of knowledge of the sport alongside other types of mix martial arts that you learn a lot from various forms and styles. The school is very clean and organize with a large mat so their is plenty of space for everyone to drill moves and wrestle during class hours! Highly recommend!!

    Cyrus Foster: I’m going on my 4th month of training and I couldn’t be anymore pleased with my experience here. Coming in, everyone has been beyond welcoming and the small class sizes has helped me so much by allowing instructors to keep a close eye on everyone while training. Damon puts 200% of his effort into all of his students and pushes everyone to be better and reach their goals. I don’t think you can get this much value for your money at any other school.

    George Yin: I tried out different martial art schools around Philly and PJJ is a great choice for anyone whether they are a beginner or advanced. The school offers a lot of systems and the one that stands out for me is the Judo program. The Judo in PJJ is very technical and offers a balance of standup and groundwork. If you're around the Philly area give PJJ a try!

    Junaid Abdulghani: I have been with Philly jiujitsu for a few months now. It has been a fantastic journey so far.I am not particularly young compared to the other students in the class and so have some reservations with regards to flexibility and cardio. Nevertheless, the instructors as well as have been accommodating as I come to speed with them. There's fear of falling/injuries which I have while sparring/takedowns/throws and the students have been careful towards me.It's a safe school, focused on technique whether its judo, jiujitsu, kickboxing or stick fighting. I did not go to any other school in Philly before joining this place, and I don't regret it.In summary, an excellent all-round, intimate school for all fitness levels.

    Austin Parrish: My girlfriend and I started attending PJJ about 2 years ago hoping to improve our fitness levels and learn a martial art. We both came in with virtually zero knowledge of jiu-jitsu, but Damon and the other instructors did an excellent job helping us build up our skill sets from total beginner moves to more advanced techniques. On the grappling side, he incorporates jiu-jitsu with wrestling and traditional judo techniques, allowing a full and well-rounded experience in both standing and ground work. Muay Thai and MMA classes help with learning a full repertoire of strikes, clinches, and sweeps as well. I have also recently begun attending a stick-fighting class on Monday mornings, which has been tremendously fun! The gym space is quite large and always kept very clean.Overall, the instructors and other students made this place feel welcoming from day one, while still pushing me to always get better.

    Dau Lenh: Since I started taking classes I've become more aware of my physical and mental health, also doing things I've always wanted to from the days of watching youtube videos and fight videos into actually practice moves and learning what works for you.     Michael D'Onofrio: such as street judo, submission wrestling, stick fighting, and striking, especially at my age. Damon makes this all seem easy, too, and he eased me into everything by initially working on my rusty base in wrestling, to get me reacquainted with the basic movements of grappling, tumbling, break falling, and even controlled breathing, before introducing his formal MMA curriculum.I can also say that it's obvious that Damon loves what he does. Although his gym - a converted church, really - is unassuming and austere in that classic South Philly Rocky sort of way, it is meticulously clean, and what it lacks in fancy amenities, it more than makes up for with its humble and committed instructor who lives like Jarmusch's Ghost Dog, a modern day ascetic samurai.
